Opportunities for officers’ jobs in the US military are many and diverse. Apart from the combat, aviation, administrative, intelligence, law enforcement and medical spheres, there are spheres like media and accountancy, public relations, transport and special operations forces in the military.

For an individual with a four year college degree in accounting, finance of related fields, the U. S. army and U. S. Air Force offer the jobs of comptroller, whereas the United States Marines offer the post of accounting officer or financial specialist. The navy offers the post of accounting or fiscal officer and the United States Coast Guard offers the post of accounting officer.

For a student with a four year college degree in fields of engineering, mathematics, computer sciences and related fields there are jobs of communication officers. With a college degree you can also get the job of a food service manager since the military needs to feed its personnel on bases, ships, submarines, and remote stations. From small groups to huge numbers, personnel need to be fed and food budgets and inventories have to be managed. The nomenclature for this post given by the U. S. army is ‘subsistence manager’.

International relations officers interface with foreign military officials, specializing in different regions like Africa, Asia, Latin America and different areas of Europe. While the US airforce and army refer to these posts as Civil Affairs Attaché, the United States marines and navy refer to these posts as International Relations officer and the United States Coast Guard as Attaché.

While all the services have their aviation units, the US airforce offers especial opportunities for engineers, master scientists, fighter pilots and navigators. Surprisingly only 4% of the total number of personnel in the air force are actually pilots. The U. S. Air Force offers lots of other opportunities for technical, scientific careers offering tremendous leadership experience in fields as diverse as law, religious aid, and accounting.
